I think there is even a scene in The Lion King where Scar is acting very annoyed because the surrounding hyenas are sooo dumb xD

Sorry, but I do. I just think they fit WAY better with each of the charactersโ personalities than lion ๐ฆ, tiger ๐ฏ, & bear ๐ป โฆ And dogs CAN also โcatchโ birds so โฆ ๐๐ Also, I BELIEVE there WAS a theory going around like a LONG time ago that says the reason why the Founders chose non-magical animals for the House mascots was because lion, eagle, badger, and snake was their Animagus forms, but I donโt know if J.K. has since shut that theory down or not . . . ๐ค Either way, I think that reasoning should TOTALLY be in your Foundersโ Series!! Godric is a lion ๐ฆ, Rowena is an eagle ๐ฆ , Salazar is a snake ๐, & Helga is a badger ๐ฆก!! ๐๐๐ป
