I find Isamu highly likeable as a character. He is basically Maverick from Top Gun. Womanizing, overconfident, cocky but also incredible talented. He got selected be a test pilot because he can pull stunts that no one else can, its that simple. As is shown in the montage where the YF-19 and YF-21 are measured against each other and all the stats are way higher in the end for Isamu because the pilot can get more out of a standard control system then the mind control system which in the end is limited. I dont know, for me as a big Macross Plus fan who watched the episodes in the late 90s this reaction is a bit disappointing so far. Theta seems half checked out all the time, cant even retain simple stuff like names and is AGAIN constantly talking over stuff and then has to ask " what just happend? what was that?", not gonna lie its kinda annoying.
