Nice! I'm kind of a sub purist but Berserk's dub is iconic and wonderful so that's alright. How the anime starts is of course similar to the manga but also better in a way. This introductory Black Swordsman arc was much longer originally and is pretty much universally thought of as the manga's worst part due to the still comparatively undercooked artwort and strange characterization of Guts, which contradicts with his later portrayal. So not much is lost when the show just puts the essentials into a single episode to give the viewer a taste of the world before we go into the real story. I wouldn't call this anime underrated but there are still some people who say Berserk never got an adaptation that did the material justice and it's just not true. Certainly some parts were cut out for simplicity but what did get adapted was done so beautifully.
