This is moreso responding to last episode stuff... Minerva's pilots are all coordinators--some of them just sucked at using a gun lol. I think the gun shooting stuff was just trying to re-emphasize how experienced Athrun is. Shinn's perspective on being mad / sad that coordinators caused the fall of Janis 7 is that he's disappointed his people would re incite conflict, and cause more deaths like his family's. This tracks with his "Are you trying to start another war" quote. Also that's Kira in the mid credit roll btw. If it helps, Kira has purple eyes and brown hair while Shinn has red eyes and black hair
