[SILVER] Fate/Zero (Episode 16) "The Terminus of Honor"

Comments

Edited to remove or call out notes I wouldn't consider spoilers but Theta might. FYI Fate/Extra and Fate/Extra CCC are PSP games that take place in the far future and possibly in a separate timeline from Fate/Stay Night and Fate Grand Order (a gacha phone game with an anime covering part of the story and several anime movies covering separate parts) takes place in a separate timeline from Fate/Stay Night. Time for my Fate notes. I am a huge Typemoon fan and have watched most of the shows and played most of the visual novels or absorbed their stories via other mediums. Here are my notes/points of clarification: -A Servant has to be willing to enter into a contract with a mage to become its master after it has lost its master and a Servant's contract with a master cannot be passed on/taken from that master unless the command seals are removed/taken from the master while the contract is in place. -some of the prior comments about the Root and True Magic you responded to were incorrect/misleading. In Fate, anything that can be accomplished with magecraft can also be accomplished scientifically, but True Magic is something science cannot replicate and those who become Magicians are considered adversaries of the planet because using True Magic has the potential to drastically unbalance the natural world. There are only Five True Magics in existence: 1. the First Magic is unknown but is related to the generation of ether clumps. 2. the Second Magic's domain is the Operation of Parallel Worlds. 3. the Third Magic achieves the Materialization of the Soul, which in effect stops a soul from dispersing once it no longer has an anchor to the World via a body. 4. the Fourth Magic is unknown and no details of what it deals with is known, only that it exists as a True Magic. 5. the Fifth Magic is related to Time Travel (but not in the way you would normally expect, I can explain in further detail as it's not a future spoiler, unless the Witch on the Holy Night anime movie comes out soon and you think you might watch it). -The only way to become a user of True Magic is to reach the Swirl of the Root (which is also known as the Akashic Record). The Root is a metaphysical location where the information of everything in existence is stored and everything's existence is dependent on that information being stored there. The ultimate goal of all mages is to reach the Root, not necessarily to become a True Magic user, but to obtain access to the "truth of the universe". Whenever a route to the Root is used, that route is then closed off to everyone else and because in the Age of Gods True Magic was more readily used and accessible, many routes to the Root were closed off before mages understood what they were doing, making reaching the Root in the modern day far more difficult. -Matou Zoken and the other Matous are not actually vampires. Vampires in the Typemoon Universe are dealt with more specifically in Tsukihime and have very specific characteristics and rules associated with them. It would be hilarious if you actually watched the Tsukihime anime as a series because it is viewed by the Tsukihime community as being so awful in terms of being an adaptation and as an anime that it resulted in the creation of the "There is no Tsukihime anime" meme. -Gilgamesh's Noble Phantasm "Gate of Babylon" does grant access to his treasury, but within that treasury are the prototypes of almost every other noble phantasm in existence, so he in effect has countless noble phantasms and he can choose to use their special abilities if he wants instead of just shooting them. -Servants can only be hurt by other servants, magecraft or mana-infused objects/items that incorporate magical energy, so they are impervious to some kinds of harm. -Arturia was always female, but presented herself as male with very few people knowing she was a woman including Guinevere, Merlin, Morgan, and maybe Lancelot and one or two others knights of the Round Table. Fun fact, Merlin used magic to temporarily give her a penis and Morgan le Fay managed to obtain some of Arturia's semen and used that to create Mordred and this is also why Merlin's nickname in Typemoon circles is "dick wizard". -Gilgamesh does remember his entire life, but his mindset is of his life before he met Enkidu, so while he remembers Enkidu, his personality is that of when he was the tyrant ruling of Uruk. Fate Grand Order spoiler for both phone game and specific anime series: If you ever watch Fate Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, you will get to see Gilgamesh after his personality changed from meeting Enkidu and trying to obtain the herb of immortality. -Theta you may consider this a spoiler but this doesn't impact Fate Zero or Fate/Stay Night but a separate series that occurs after Fate Zero and there is an anime of it, so feel free to ignore the next sentence. The difference between Rider's physical size in Fate Zero and his historically recorded size actually becomes something of a plot point in the El Melloi Case Files Rail Zeppelin light novel/anime. -this is the Fourth Holy Grail War -Kiritsugu triggered a fire alarm to get the rest of the building to evacuate before he blew it up trying to kill Lord El Melloi and Sola Ui. -Theta, you may consider this point a spoiler so feel free to ignore this if feel it is too spoilery even though the point of the next sentence is to encourage guesswork discussion by reexamining the show's timeline up to this point. There is a very specific reason why Irisviel's condition is deteriorating that you may be able to somewhat figure out/guess yourselves if you take a very close look at the timeline of events and how her condition has changed over time. -Fate Zero is technically a prequel to (i) the original Fate/Stay Night anime (which primarily follows the Fate route of the visual novel but also incorporates some elements of the Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel routes in way that I believe damages the story, (ii) the Unlimited Blade Works anime which was made by the same studio after Fate Zero and only tells the story of the Unlimited Blade Works route, and (iii) the Heaven's Feel movie trilogy which is a very compressed adaptation of the Heaven's Feel route but does a very good job with what it works with, but familiarity with the VN helps tremendously. The three routes are essentially separate timelines that tell the story of the Fifth Holy Grail war with a different female character taking prominence in each and are independent of each other. -Also, if you decide to continue watching the sequel series/movies you should maybe consider this point. The original VN story was designed so that the Fate route is done first, then Unlimited Blade Works and then Heavens Feel and there are questions/story elements that arise in a previous route that are answered/addressed in a future route (i.e. something that is foreshadowed/hinted at in the Fate route will be addressed in the Unlimited Blade Works or Heavens Feel route). I haven't watch the original Fate/Stay Night anime in a long time, but I believe some plot points for Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel are somewhat spoiled by it and I remember one specific one that significantly spoils Heavens Feel, so if you continue you may want to do the Fate/Stay Night anime last to avoid spoilers for the others. -Fun Fact: Kirei's voice actor is the same as Commander Jin Kunugi from RahXephon.
