[SILVER] Gundam SEED Destiny (Episode 34) "Nightmare"

Comments

Comments for this episode, sorry they are out of order. I also will likely not be able to comment on next weeks episodes as I'll be on vacation: -You are incorrect about the location of the Freedom's cockpit. The Freedom and the Justice's cockpit is higher than it was on the Strike and the Aegis so the anti-ship sword did not pierce through the cockpit. Remember Kira has to enter the cockpit from just below the head. -I think its important to note that Zaft did not decide to elect to label the Archangel an enemy until they started moving immediately after hearing Durandel's announcement. The Zaft commander appears to have previously been ordered (aka before the announcement) to immediately label the Archangel an enemy and destroy it if they reacted to the announcement. Operation Archangel Down appears to have already been preplanned before the announcement and was only triggered because the Archangel suddenly moving in response to announcement potentially would interfere with whatever Durandal has planned. -I don't think the Archangel crew is adamantly opposed to trying to stop Logos, but given that they don't trust Durandal and in his announcement he was shown to have deliberately altered the footage shown to prevent the Freedom and Archangel's intervention against the Destroy they are wary that Durandal might have another goal that is being obscured by his focusing on Logos. Remember, Durandal knew about the Destroy but did not take any steps to prevent it from being used and by now exposing Logos and blaming them for everything that has happened so far he has apparently united most of the world behind him. I agree Logos needs to be gotten rid of, but its possible Durandal has been either manipulating events behind the scenes or taking advantage of what he anticipated Logos intended to do in order to accomplish something else. Remember we still don't know what his ultimate plan to end war is and how DNA ties into it. -When I previously stated I was going to call on Theta to retract a definitive statement he made, I was referring to this episode. Theta has said that Kira cannot be hit or harmed unless he allows it and in this episode Shinn definitively beat Kira. Even though Kira was mainly focused on running away and not fighting, Shinn still was able to out pilot him and came prepared with a plan that countered Kira's fighting style. -Also, I believe this episode makes it clear that when Shinn told Athrun that he was training against the Freedom in order to improve and make sure someone in Zaft could beat it, that he was lying through his teeth. Shinn doesn't care about any of that, all he cared about was getting revenge for Stella. At this point, Shinn is now perpetuating the cycle of violence and as we can see in the next time on Athrun hits him because Athrun probably hates him for killing his best friend. Shinn has completely forgotten or ignored the lesson Athrun tried to teach him about becoming the person who makes others suffer the same things he has. -Its also interesting that Cagalli said that the Seirans are either members of Logos or connected to them in some way after she saw the announcement. This might mean that Zaft would invade Orb just to get to them, and while I despise the Seirans I think its also important to consider that Durandal may have included names of people in that announcement who aren't actually members of Logos but it would serve his purpose to label them as such and potentially give him justification to intervene and remove countries or people who he finds problematic.

I have not watched this episode yet but I wanted you to catch this comment before your rewatch. This is the episode I was planning to tell you to pay close attention towards the end due to it being easy to misunderstand what happens. The explosion at the end was not the Freedom exploding but was caused by the Minerva’s positron blast at the Archangel. Just after the explosion starts expanding there is a brief clip/frame where the Minerva’s side is towards the explosion but we can see lingering parts of the positron blast hanging in the air pointing directly towards the explosion’s source. The show’s creators have also confirmed the explosion was caused by the positron cannon and not the Freedom. For the longest time I believed the explosion was caused by the Freedom’s nuclear reactor given its size.
