DO NOT READ THIS COMMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED WATCHING GUNDAM SEED FREEDOM. My comments on the film: I really enjoy this film a lot, although I feel the pacing is somewhat rushed and that the Foundation being able to develop superior technology to everyone, assembling a massive fleet and being able to repair and improve on Requiem without Orb or the Earth Forces noticing strains credulity and most of the black knights are very one-dimensional as villains and not very interesting characters. I do appreciate how Kira and Lacus are both tested in terms of individual struggles and the fact their relationship has finally been truly tested by the events around them. While Kira does somewhat regress to how he was in SEED, it makes sense because he's been fighting for a while and he's trying to make a peaceful world in part to prove himself worthy of Lacus and make her happy, and the fact that Blue Cosmos is still launching devastating attacks despite all his efforts has started to wear on him. Lacus being challenged with her origins and the purpose of her creation forces her to truly come to grips with what she believes in in a way that hasn't really happened before. Kira bouncing back with help from Athrun after getting his ass beat is also satisfying. I also like what they do with Shinn in the movie and Lunamaria also gets a chance to shine fighting Agnes (who I believe is meant to be a better written expy of a future UC character that Lessons may be able to guess). I also enjoy the funny scenes like when Athrun imagines Cagalli naked to throw Shura into confusion and make him unable to realize he switched on the remote control and Stella terrifying the Black Knights. It also fixed the issue I had with them apparently breaking up Cagalli and Athrun and that they are still together in the movie. One other issue I have is giving all the female characters bigger colored lips, I think the original art style was better. I think the movie is good and is more enjoyable than the Gundam 00 movie or any of the other Gundam movies I've seen. The fight scenes are all top quality and the character work is also very well done. I have feeling your enjoyment is going to be largely contingent on whether your current opinions on Lacus and Kira color how they are portrayed in the film. Differences between the Normal edition and the Special Edition that I was able to clearly remember/identify: -When the Black Knights betray Compass, in the Special Addition there is an added scene where the Archangel's Igelstellungs landed multiple hits on the Black Knight mobile suits and having no effect because of the armor. This is important because later rail guns are shown to be effective at being able to cause damage to the Femtech armor and railgun projectiles can be blocked by normal phase shift armor. -When the Foundation is announcing their intention to implement the Destiny Plan, in the Normal edition the Kusanagi is shown to be launching into into space using Orb's mass driver but instead a smaller ship is shown to be launching which I believe is meant to be Mu in the Akatsuki Gundam heading up to space before everyone else. This is supported by Volume 2 of the Gundam Seed Freedom Novella page 38 with the paragraph about a third of the way down starting with "As they walked down the corridor" -When Yzak is with Dearka and his mother on the Eternal and his mother is staring at Shiho, the scene is extended in the Special Edition and apparently it's meant to be Ezalia evaluating whether or not she would be a suitable wife for Yzak. -When Kira and the others "hijack" the Millenium, in the Special Edition there is scene with subtitles explicitly showing that experimental railguns were also being loaded onto the Millenium, whereas before they kind of just appeared out of nowhere. -After Kira and the others escape with Lacus and Lacus is wishing Kira luck as he boards the Strike Freedom, the Special Edition added Lacus's assistant in the background whereas in the Normal version she was just forgotten. -Throughout Kira's fight with Orphee and Shura, in the Normal version the Strike Freedom's reactor/energy level screen is glowing bright red with warning sounds going off making it appear as if the nuclear reactor is being overstressed by the amount of times the phase shift is being used with all the missiles Kira's being hit with, whereas the Special Edition has the energy level slowly decrease with a normal screen. I prefer the Normal edition of this scene to the Special Edition because it doesn't make sense for the Strike Freedom to lose energy when it has a nuclear reactor. I know that happened in one episode of Destiny with the Destiny, but that was supposed to be the result of the reactor/engine malfunctioning and not an intended feature. -In Athrun's duel with Shura, it's made more clear that the Infinite Justice loses an arm before he engages the head beam saber to kill Shura in the Special Edition. -the Credits of the Special Edition have a punch of still images that show both past and future events. 2025-04-20 02:47:02 +0000 UTCI generally enjoyed Stargazer, but I found that some of the stuff that was briefly introduced conflicts with Destiny's narrative. In the first episode some of the ZAFT "terrorists" were attacking an Earth Forces Base expecting to potentially face a Destroy Gundam and later Zaft forces are shown attacking the Bonaparte which was transporting the Destroy to Neo and Stella. While the fact the "terrorists" were equipped to potentially fight a Destroy supports the conclusion that Durandal behind the Zala remnant terrorists, the fact that he would have sent Zaft forces to preemptively attack the Destroy before it could be used contradicts what I believe Destiny was trying to imply with Durandal having foreknowledge of the Destroy but intentionally let Logos use it to kill millions so ZAFT could swoop in and save the day and further cement his position and gain the trust of the rest of the world because destroying it before it could be used would make it harder for him to unite the rest of the world against Logos without the atrocities committed by the Destroy. I'm looking forward to you guys starting Gundam Wing because I think our positions are going to be the reverse of what they were during Seed and Seed Destiny, as I think Wing has a ton of serious problems and most of the main characters are either uninteresting or have sudden changes in behavior or personality at random points that don't really make sense. Also (and I believe Theta will strongly disagree with this), I feel like Gundam 00 - which I think was meant to be a reimagining of Wing in at least the first season - is superior to Gundam Wing, except for Duo, Treize, Zechs and perhaps Noin who are all superior characters to their equivalents in 00. My comment in reply to this one is meant to be read after watching Gundam Seed Freedom as I will be discussing the differences between the original and special editions of the movie, discussing some additional context revealed by written materials that can be found on Zeonic, and recommending you watch some epilogue and extra videos that were included in the special edition of the film and have been fan translated. Also, the film has a couple of lines that I believe are meant to be references to Legend of the Galactic Heroes that I want Theta to be looking for.

2025-04-20 02:11:08 +0000 UTCI was specifically remembering back to my note about the first Gundam SEED OP, where there is the half-second flash of all the Gundam names and designations. The fact that they were ORB made Gundams, destined to go to the Earth Alliance, but stolen by ZAFT really confused my addled brain for 30 minutes.

2025-04-16 11:47:02 +0000 UTCaaaaand of course you guys are arguing over a technicality during the info dump, hahahahahaha at 19:15-ish, GAT-X series designations are Earth Alliance designations ZAFT designations are usually ZGMF, (or at least ends with MF, since ZG apparently stands for Zero Gravity, so I assume there's some others) Edit: okay you corrected yourself in the end lol
