For the first time, the Predator is the lead rather than the slasher. The story follows Dek, a young "runt" Yautja on a rite-of-passage hunt on the deadly planet Genna. I love the film’s success in making an alien hunter relatable through themes of brotherhood, betrayal, and finding one's place in a rigid society. Elle Fanning delivers a dual performance as synthetics Thia and Tessa. Her quirky, lighthearted chemistry with Dek brings a "buddy movie" energy. It's one of the best sequels since the 1987 original, though I love the more stripped-down intensity of Trachtenberg’s previous film, Prey.

2026-01-08 09:24:58 +0000 UTCThis was a great movie and an even better reaction (you guys are my fav). Wolves don't actually have an alpha. That was something from wolves being studied in captivity when unrelated wolves were thrown together and squabbled for dominance and the observers labeled the winner the "alpha." But, in the wild, it's basically mom and dad, the kids, and an uncle or aunt or other older sibling or two all hanging out. Mom and dad basically make the decisions because, well, they're mom and dad and have all the experience. There's really rarely a challenge for dominance. Everyone kind of works together. Lone wolves aren't actually a thing unless someone doesn't get along with the others and gets kicked out and they don't often live for long. Anyway, none of that makes the movie any less good. It's just stuff that my AuDHD mind latched onto for a bit. The common tropes work i the movie and it was fun and had the right emotional hooks. Loved watching it with y'all.
