Nepolabo 5th Anniversary Fan Project 🎉

Two weeks ago I said that the project was pretty much done, but we still spent a lot of time fixing stuff for the youtube version. 😅 Anyway, it's finally here!

It's NePoLaBo 5th anniversary! And to celebrate, the fans joined together to make a short animation that is being displayed on the giant Yunika Vision screens in Shinjuku. From 7 AM–11 PM / Every hour at 22 min and 52 min until August 18th. Are any of you guys in Japan? If not, there's also a high quality 4K version on Youtube!

I have been invited to work on fan anniversary projects before, but I never had the time. And even though I'm still pretty busy this year, it had been a while since I animated anything nepolabo related. And I do love Gen 5 a lot! So I felt compelled to join in this time!

I mostly animated the mascots and the side screens. And I did go all-out with these rigs. The amount of control over Zain's hat is crazy! Hands down one of the best things I ever done in After Effects (not the whole character, just the hat 🎩). Spent more time rigging than animating! 🤣 Severely underestimated the time it would take... but everything kinda worked out in the end, so it's all good 👍
