2024-10-19 22:41:21 +0000 UTCNah nah nah we don’t talk shit about this episode round here, nor Sasha. This episode alone makes her an incredibly deep and inspiring character. She went from being selfish to putting herself in the front lines to protect innocent people, the pinnacle of what her Dad was trying to teach her: helping others. You also saw how much she changed when she actually OFFERED the other cadets meat on the wall in episode 4. She’s sporadic and panics easily, sure, but she’s now more selfless than ever, has great intuition and senses, can get her shit together when it matters, brave as hell, and is a good ass shot. Notice how the little girl had no light in her eyes and wouldn’t run without Sasha’s hand holding UNTIL she shouted in her full accent and stopped “talking nice” (which the girl was asking her about before). It was an affect she’d learned over time, integrating into the cadet corps, but here after reflecting on that talk she had with Krista and Ymir, she CUTS THE SHIT and takes on the titan, an act of Sasha Brause, a SCOUTS MEMBER!!!, not the girl in the woods anymore, basking in her new and I’d daresay, improved identity, but while still SHOUTING in her accent to instill within the girl the courage to run on her own, which works. In THAT moment, she intersected the old and the new, a realized individual finally understanding her full identity as a protector of the innocent and a true descendant of her ancestors. The epitome of Attack on Titan right here folks. In Sasha Brause. The answer to “Why am I thinking about silly pointless days in the past” is because she NEEDED to reflect on those two parts of herself, and in the end, she accepts both Ymir’s and Krista’s ideologies, which I think is what saves her and the girl’s life. If you couldn’t tell, I love her. It doesn’t matter at all if you didn’t care about her as a character beforehand. That’s the whole point of flashbacks. The show isn’t going to spend an entire episode on her for you to just say you don’t care. They clearly want you to, to realize the HUGE transition of character Sasha goes through, something MANY of us, especially those scared of change, could go their whole lives without having to, or wanting to. So if you didn’t love ‘er, you should now! Also, it really sheds a light on Krista and Ymir’s personalities. That one conversation pretty much lays bare who they are at their core, at least at that point in the story. Ymir thinks being yourself is what matters most, regardless of what other people think. That’s why she’s so insensitive, snarky, and honest, yet observant and kind enough to notice Sasha’s behavior and tell her straight up that she should be comfortable in her own skin. Krista in the other hand, believes transitioning into a new person is worth pursuing because you aren’t bound to your past. That’s why she’s presented in such a weird light with all the goddess effects, sunshine and all that every time she’s on screen, because it’s an act, a shell of some kind that helps HER feel comfortable. But from the scene, you know she IS truly caring, so her ‘act’ is just an exaggerated version of who she already is. It just helps her find security navigating a dangerous and erratic world. IM SO SORRY FOR WRITING SO MUCH. I just love this episode. It’s jam packed with so much meaning, I HAD TO. Well done if you’ve reached the end here. And remember, Sasha’s my and a lot of other people’s GOATs for a reason mates! POTATO GIRL SUPREMACY!!!
