Maybe I am sensitive but I don't like you guys putting down Rowan so much when he is excited about a theory. I don't think a perspective where Eren is the protagonist is that unreasonable or untrue so shutting it down was weird to me. Of course this is my minor criticism I am obviously still here because I enjoy the videos and discussions a lot. I just feel like it's kinda bullying Rowan and I relate to him lol. Stay strong Rowan

One small detail that gets lost in translation a bit. When Eren asks "What's that? A monkey?", he's literally asking Ymir "What's a monkey?", because he doesn't know what a monkey is.

To reiterate what Ronnie said - when Reiner was talking about being promoted, he was indeed talking about the survey corps, and being promoted there as a soldier. At that point, he had entered the "split personality" mode, and what follows from there up until Eren starts yelling at him, is just Reiner being totally clueless about where he is and what is going on. You guys were approaching the scene trying to look for some hidden clues or plans - but this scene is beautiful because of how strikingly honest everything is presented (at least to us, the viewers). Reiner goes into split personality mode (I think the current psychological term is dissociative disorder, it used to be called multiple personality disorder in the past). Anyhow, Ymir catches on to it and explains Reiner's psyche: he couldn't take the guilt of being a warrior (especially after interacting with and living with his "victims" for so long) - that he ended up believing this false reality of being a soldier. It's a mental state that comes and goes, sometimes he wakes up to the real world and is fully aware of his mission as a warrior, and sometimes he is just drowning in the false reality he created inside his mind. When he acted brotherly towards everyone and saved multiple people in multiple instances, he wasn't always "acting" - in many of these instances, he was genuinely a caring Reiner who wanted to help his comrades and be a good soldier. The rest of the scene (when Reiner "wakes up" to reality) is amongst my favorites in the series. Eren and Reiner are just yelling their most honest feelings at each other, and we see that Reiner, in his state as a warrior, fully understands the gravity of what he has done (something that he can't cope with most days).

Note that Reiner wasn't trying to manipulate them or anything, he was genuinely just tweaking out thinking he was back to being a soldier in that moment, hence having that breakdown when Bert gives him the reality check.
