Some clarification. because it can be confusing: At this point Erwin was already ahead of the game, thinking maybe the Titans entered at the same time and were all part of the 104th training regiment, so he had sent some of the 104th out to the cabins for investigation (Episode 1 of this season). This was BEFORE they launched the operation to catch Annie. A few among the 104th however were not sent to the cabins and allowed to participate in the operation, these were Jean, Armin and Mikasa, who were all present in the fight against Annie. Erwin had already proof that Armin and Mikasa were not titans, Armin being the one to figure out the Female was Annie and Mikasa having fought the Female Titan herself. Jean I believe was needed as a decoy for Eren when they entered Stohess because somehow they resemble eachother xD.
