In some cultures, actors portraying historically significant figures may wear blindfolds or obscure their eyes as a sign of respect. This practice stems from the belief that, because the actors are not the actual individuals they are representing, and the true appearance of these figures from ancient times is often unknown, it would be inappropriate or even disrespectful to depict them fully. While clothing and other details may be accurately represented, covering the eyes prevents audiences from associating the actor’s face too closely with the historical figure, thereby preserving the figure's dignity and mystery.

Biraj losing faith in the show telling the truth. hahahaha. I get it. This show is based on lies. lol

Except his role in the government wasn't public until he revealed it. He has no official authority to declare war, so him just saying it in front of cameras doesn't mean anything at government levels. Papers need to be signed, gears need to start turning. What Willy did on that stage wasn't declare war, but announce the declaration. Similarly: Historia standing up after killing her father and announcing she's the true ruler of the walls was nice and impactful, but it's not what gave her the crown.

That line from the flashback about wanting to be judged is so good. It can be implied towards both Eren and Reiner as Reiner now feels the guilt of his actions as they come to bite him back, and so he just wants to die now seeing the weight of his sins. However this line more so applies to Eren who essentially had this conversation with Reiner so that he can be judged for what he is about to do, which is kill all them innocent civilians and initiate war on the whole world. He basically found someone who can understand him on the same level and who has been through similar experiences, so he can pretty much say "this is valid right? If i'm a completely heartless piece of shit for this then so are you" as a means to try and justify what he is about to do, and that person was Reiner. Eren and Reiner are truly an amazing parallel in this show.

Fun Fact. The episode title: Declaration Of War was trending on twitter when it first came out. The people who didnt watch the show thought war broke out and it was a crisis for an hour or so lol.

To disagree with Rowan here: Eren was kind of truthful when he said he barely remembered telling Reiner that he will "make him suffer and die in the worst way possible". He is now a new Eren, a different Eren, one that knows "who the enemy is", and that it's all much bigger than Reiner and Berthold; that they were simply pawns in a game. "You were just kids, it was drilled into you" - Eren understands it now, and his purpose has evolved beyond his personal revenge for his mother. His mother's death is almost like a part of his personal history that he is now detached from, as he faces forces that want to wipe him and his entire people off the face of the world. Also, unrelated (and I'd hate to turn this into politics); but I stumbled upon your guy's YT channel about two months ago, when I was recently displaced from my city, Southern Beirut, because of war. Yesterday a ceasefire was put into place and we will be returning shortly into our homes inside a city that is now half-rubble. It's rare that you encounter art and shows that depict the complexity of what war is, and despite all the "fantasy" in it, AOT is definitely a show that does a great job with it. I'm glad it's out there and that it sparks conversation, especially when watched by people who truly appreciate it.

About 3:57, it reminds about that one famous titan, who ,,slip and fall". Besides, best four-pack we didn't ask for, but we got.

Except he's not just some guy, he's literally the man in charge of the entire country, announcing to the entire world - including all major news organisations and foreign government reps, a declaration of war on another country. Willy literally said "As a representative of the Marley government".

Hippopi

Actual, official declarations of war aren't made by some guy on a theater stage. Eren just attacked at the most dramatic moment, it's not like he was anxiously waiting for the point of no return.

draeonic 🪼

Hard disagree. He's born into a family that literally controls Marley from the shadows. The Marelyean government didn't tell him to do this, or actually have control over the Tyburs. It's inherently selfish to sell out your entire race to a lifetime of what is essentially slavery just so you and your family can live like millionaires. It's outright disgusting even. Willy declared war on Paradis not to stop any sort of attack, but to push the blame from Marley onto Paradis, since Marley was hated since IT was the one who spent the most recent century oppressing and colonising the world. Marley is basically the current USA, acting like heroes of the world and blaming other countries for "threatening world peace" when in reality they're the biggest warmongers on the planet. If the island wasn't going to be attacked, Eren wouldn't have attacked them. It's why he waited until the declaration.

Hippopi

Gotta agree to disagree with you here. I get your point, he could’ve used his influence to change the views of eldians but its not like he chose to be born into an influential family. If i was in his shoes, cant lie id just do whatever the marlyans told me to do to make sure my family could have the best life. If he spoke out about all this prior to the play then personally i think he wouldve been silenced by the Marlyans. And considering that eren has already written the letters to his comrades, it was obvious that they were going to attack on this day either way. If Willy didn’t say the speech the way he did then the world wouldn’t have joined forces to try and stop paradis and the attack that just happened in the internment zone would’ve still happened anyway. Yeah if he spoke up years ago before reiner attacked paradis all of this couldve been prevented, but during this current time, he made the best decision for what he believes in

Heartz04

Wow, thank you guys

Tommy

Exactly! I've seen so many reactors say that he's a decent person or selfless and I'm always like WHAT?!

Hippopi

Thank you 🙏

Lauren Crawford

Well said. He has the power and influence to potentially change the world's perception on the Eldians on the island and around the world even though he himself is one, but he doesn't. He chooses to be ignorant and accepts them as the scapegoat while he lives his luxurious lifestyle which is what's more convenient for him. Put simply, a morally weak man who has 0 honor and no capacity to think for himself.

Jay

Also it's not about revenge. Eren is literally saying that he understands Reiner and what he did, and then says he's just going to do the same anyway. Because he "doesn't have a choice" in that they're both selfish in their missions. The difference is that Eren already knew that the people aren't devils, they're just the same as everyone else, yet he goes ahead with it anyway. Also Eren doesn't attack Willy when he just says that Eren Jeager is the threat, he only attacks after Willy officially declares war on the entire island.

Hippopi

Willy always pissed me off because he's purely a selfish bastard who uses the people of Paradis as a scapegoat for Marley's actions. His speech is so calculated and manipulative, talking about how he hates Eldians and knows that they want them to all die, and then says "He doesn't want to die... because I was born into this world" - the whole world joins in with him because they were born and don't want to die, yet conveniently and wilfully ignore that the people of Paradis are the same. They just want to live too, yet the world demonizes them since they're a convenient target.

Hippopi
