Very late but here are my thoughts about Eren and the last episode : Eren is the freest person in the world giving all his power and the decisions he can make with it, but that's really just the tip of it. In reality he’s a slave to his initial and most profound nature, a slave to the initial longing of a beautiful uninhabited world he had as a kid through Armin's book. Back in season 1 he believed that we all had a right to take others freedom if it meant preserving our own, he indirectly believed that we should fight for freedom even at the cost of turning from a victim to a perpetrator which is shown in the episode where he kills the kidnappers in season 1 and latter developed in season 4, ( he responded to the cruelty of this world with nothing but cruelty). It’s a stark contrast from Erwin’s ideology ( responding to the cruelty of this world with the concept of sacrifice, legacy and trust to see it through) that was passed down to all the survivors of the survey corp indirectly (the author made it this way, a few examples are Hange, Levi, Armin ect). As well as some interesting offshoots and other interesting ideologies of secondary characters. In the story Eren ironically the person with the greatest power and thus the existence which « theoretically » should be the nearest from freedom is the slave of the story, why ? Because he’s « supposed to » be free physically but being captive of the mind of his younger self (kid Eren) nullifies his physical freedom and this is showcased with Aot’s whole timeline deal. In Aot the order IS important if the very thing you want to change happened before you ( Eren’s ideology as a kid of simply « killing the enemy ») and is preventing you actively from changing the past and thus the future then what can you do ? There are more complex explanations out there but for me that’s the gist of it. Eren gave three reasons as to why he almost exterminated humans ( not that it makes it any less harrowing) ; For his friends safety, to entrust the future to them and give them a good starting point as international heroes. To live in a world free of human (which is actually very interesting because it’s linked with the last panel of the boy who is going to repeat the cycle… spoilers : it’s more complex than that). But most importantly because he felt like it ; Eren as a kid had a "calling" to fight oppression no matter the cost. So he indirectly made any other choice impossible for Future Eren because future Eren experiences the past at the same time as he experiences the present and since the future was bleak (Zeke's plan, sacrificing Historia and continuing the cycle of children eating their parents to continue having a deterent against the world but more importantly the world's complete refusal to let go of their fear of the unkown " the devils" of paradis island. So that they can get to understand and know one another rather than conclusively deem them as devils.) All Eren was left with was a flood of memories and thoughts from the past calling him to what seemed to be now the only path, to accomplish his "calling". All in all when Eren says this happened because he’s an idiot, it is such an accurate description because it entails everything that happened from the beginning to the end of the story for his character and that I touched on a bit in those previous paragraphs. Eren is a depiction of the cruelty of Aot’s world , his hardships are a question, his end is an answer, a tragic normal one for any normal human being in his situation, and that other characters more notably Erwin are a clear answer to the whole show. Now for the final scene, when Ymir found the tree that she fell in, she was being hunted, chased by dogs, scared of death and in need of an undying body and a world free from death, which she obtained when she touched the "origin of all life" that is at least what Zeke said. "However, with the final scene, we see an innocent child, accompanied by a companion in the form of a dog, approaching the hole in the tree where Eren's head was buried. The scene all around feels a lot more optimistic but is intentionally ambiguous. Does he also need an undying body, or something else? I like to think that he enters that tree with no malicious intent or peril, but instead curiosity and hope, with the same resolve of exploring and understanding new things that the survey corps embodied. " Changing so ever slightly the cycle of mankind is meaningfull.

My prediction didn't happen, I predicted that Rivas would misunderstood Eren's love confession but seems just like what you said "understand rather than judge", y'all were satisfied with everything like I did. What I got from this show is that Eren actually was not free, he was the biggest slave in the show. During is talk with Armin when he stated that Ymir had been waiting for Mikasa implies that Eren was just a tool used to see how far Mikasa could be pushed before she would choose to let go of Eren which is something that Ymir herself couldn't do with King Fritz ... so only once Mikasa made that decision only then did the power of the Titans go away .. that tells me alone that Ymir was the true one in control and that is why Eren was just "moving forward" ... thats just my interpretation of everything.

Juxtaposition, inhibition, dichotomy...I need more. I remember reading the manga because I couldn't wait for the anime and the part where the whole world of titans showed up inside and around Eren blew my mind. The translation of this story from manga to anime has been jaw-dropping, and I'm so glad you have been able to appreciate some of the incredible soundtrack that was composed to evoke emotion. While there is no other show, in my opinion, that can rival the mastery of AOT, I hope you continue to find joy in your future watches.

I loved how much you guys appreciated the poeticness of the show! It was a great journey with you all! This will break your mind: that crying baby in red being carried from the cliff to the walking titans by hands, was voice acted by Eren’s voice actor (Yuki Kaji)’s child. Yup, Eren’s voice actor had a son in between the special part 1 and 2 release and his kid voice the baby in the anime as a contrast to his character. Even through the 4th wall this show is amazing.

So, these moments are meaningful for me. 😭 The first time I watched the final, I almost broke down when Levi saw his fallen comrades at the end. And now, seeing you guys were so emotional and silently wiped away tears touched me so much. The number 140 in japan represents freedom because of the 140th division of the imperial japanese army. This part of it isn't just a theory but is true. Isayama most likely ended the manga (some even say rushed although i dont fully agree) in 139 because of this. Honestly its pretty much accepted as a fact because of how likely it is cause noone would put it past isayama to do this.

I’ve read tons of criticisms of the ending at this point over the last year and I can confidently say that these “plot holes” you speak of, all have explanations or are very minor to the point of not being very important. You can find faults with any ending if you put it under a microscope and dig hard enough. Even a show like breaking bad, which has a universally praised ending, you can find a bunch of so called “plot holes” in that last episode if you dig hard enough

I believe the best way to describe Eren's freedom, is that what we are witnessing (the rumbling) isn't necessarily him being free or not free, rather it is the result of his lack of freedom and his freedom being taken away. What I mean by this lies fundamentally with Eren's character. As mentioned before, that first segment of the final chapters part 1 perfectly summed up his character, but in a way that is overlooked by many because once again, it's complex af. One of Eren's motives was for the benefit of his friends and loved ones yes, however that was not the overarching motive. The main motive is shown explicitly when he was crying to the little boy Ramzi on that hill. Paraphrasing, Eren talks about being disappointed by the fact there is civilization outside the walls and it was nothing like the world in Armins book. Essentially, Eren and Armin had similar dreams regarding seeing the outside world, but unlike Armin who wished to see the natural wonders for what they are, Eren however wanted to see them for the sake of exploring these uncharted lands, with the freedom to adventure and do whatever he wished with no boundries. So when he found out that there is already humanity outside, and that these lands are in fact already chartered and discovered with nothing left to explore, he was "dissapointed" as he says to Ramzi. And so it's this childish dream of his that has pushed him to such lengths, literally massacring the world because he couldn't get his ideal world he wished for. Hence why Eren was depicted as a child soaring above those clouds and when he was standing with Ymir in the paths, because it is that childish mindset that drives his motives as an adult. This also goes perfectly with the conversation between Eren and Armin in this finale, where Eren says he wanted to "see this sight" of the world flattened but goes "i don't know why, I just wanted to" or something along them lines. Realistically, he DOES know, as it is the childish delusional mindset of his but he does not want to accept that fact. And likewise goes he is "a slave to freedom", because he is essentially enslaved to that mindset of his which he had as a child, and then goes "i'm an idiot" because he has realized that all of this is ultimately the result of something so petty. Truly an incredible character when properly understood.

Ahh we're finally here, it's finally come to a wrap. Truly a beautiful ending to an incredible show 🙏😭. It's been a pleasure to re watch this again with you guys. Looking back at your first few reactions of AOT, it's hilarious to see how the judgement of the show went from hatred pure love 😂. Truly a once in a lifetime kind of experience. It definitely was a complicated ending and show in general to understand, but thanks to having Ronnie, you guys have kept more or less on point with it throughout. Poor Ronnie must've been well confused when watching alone 😂. I would suggest watching some deep dives though to fully understand aspects of the narrative. But yeah, what a journey it has been. Oh and the way that Ronnie explained the memories ability was beautifully put, and it's the mechanism that most people don't understand. Unfortunately most still think of the memories of the future as an inherent ability of the attack titan, when in reality it is the founding titan sending memories back through time.

It's more about how unhappy Mikasa is to live without Eren in the free world he created ( Is this the freedom you were talking about? 2. Eren when Santa Titan ate him said, "I won't die in a place like this (a Titan mouth) but ironically he died in a Titan mouth. 3. In one of Linked Horizon's songs for AOT [the band that performs aot most songs] they sang (wings of freedom: Mikasa& Armin, soldier of freedom: Jean, warrior of freedom: Rainer. Price of freedom: Eren. Which implies the importance of Eren's death so everyone gets free. 4. In the song that played in the final fight (it was the guitar version I guess). The lyrics say (you know you have to kill her, kill her, oh my dirty hands that never fades). Meaning Eren has to kill his mom. I remember by then we thought Eren has to kill Mikasa and thus many theories went viral. 5. The parallel between this finale& other episodes in the show are many (Mikasa screaming she's strong which she did when she thought Eren died in S1/ Mikasa saying to the Okabi 'give Armin back' which she said to Annie in S1 (she said give Eren back). / The commander asking are u humans or Titans then Armin letting go of his ODM (which happened on S1, the difference is in S1 he had to clarify Eren wasn't a devil while in here he clarified he killed the devil, Eren!). 6. Mikasa in S1 heard Eren's heartbeats after he got alive out of the Titan, but here it's Eren hearing Mikasa's heartbeats since she's hugging his head. If you listen to the full song, you can hear heartbeats at the beginning of it and they keep fading at the end of the song. It's because studies indicate that hearing is the last of the senses to be lost so Eren heard Mikasa's heartbeats. 7. Some fans say Freedom number is 140 and the manga ended at 139 chapters (even 139.5 chapters since the post ending credits scenes were added a month later). Meaning Eren could never be free. But i don't know how accurate this theory is so I hope someone can confirm or debunk it here.

When you know too much it can be a burden, but for the sake of the people he loves, the 1st time viewers watching the show with him, he had to hide so much informations, acting like he did not know better, while giving them clues and reminders along the way thru episodes arcs and seasons. Ronnie is the perfect mod for a show like this. And without him this would have never been possible. He is the MC. *Ronnie is Eren Jaeger* Rivas: The Pragmatic Philosopher. When it comes to put the right balance between reality and fiction, he is the guy u want to discuss with. Constantly giving pros and cons with a fair amount of realism. Rivas eloquently stands on his ideals while allowing himself to progress with the show. A really sharp mind who questions things he does not get... UNTIL HE GETS THEM *Rivas is Armin Arlet* Rowan: The Heart We have rarely seen a viewer so important in a crew for how lighthearted they are. Rowan says what he thinks, he is not scared of being wrong, and it created the most fun and comical moments of this journey... He goes by heart and feelings and he is unapologetic about that. Without the fear of being wrong, he has made some of thE greatest predictions thoughout the show. And Yeah he wants to marry a woman Named Erwin Smith🤣🤣 *Rowan is Sasha Braus* Biraj: The Prodigy Talking about young and mature, Biraj has done one of the most important things as a viewer, he has been able to remember pieces, scenarios, and dialogues throughout the show and connect important dots that were needed to the overall understanding of the plot. The group would have not had the perspectives the closest to the truth without that amazing talent of his. Another Sharp mind who almost always understands the correct subtext of what he is seeing and hearing. *Biraj is Falco* Thanks guys for this amazing experience...

Great reaction! But I have a criticism to do, of course with a lot of respect. I think you guys needs to talk way less over dialogue, especially the guy with glasses. I understand that you guy still catch what's on screen, but think about the audience watching alongside with you, it looks like you're not paying attention, or even so, we can't focus on what they're saying with you guys talking over it. For example, Historia was giving an amazing speech explaining what happened over the last 3 years, and you guys were talking about Onyankopon. Hope you don't take it the wrong way, is just my personal opinion for future shows.

A cool fact list about the finale: - At the start of the show, the myth was that 80% of humanity outside the walls was wiped out by the titans; Eren made that a reality in the end - The line Armin finishes off with in this finale leads perfectly onto the very first line in the very first episode (because he's the narrator). This suggests the entirety of aot was a visualisation of a story in a pre-determined timeline from the perspective of Armin. - Eren had his eyes closed throughout the entire rumbling because he couldn't bear seeing what he was doing. He only opened his eyes to see Mikasa one last time before he died - The order in which Eren, Mikasa and Armin died (from the post credits) is the same manner in which Armin described him racing them to the tree to Zeke - Armin was the last one to reach the tree - The final shot of the boy with the dog shows them voluntarily walking into the tree as opposed to Ymir who was chased there, suggesting IF the power of the titans was (somehow) brought back into the world, it may be used in a better way than it was in the past - The final song in the final scene of the show was sung by Mikasa's voice actress If anyone has anything else to add feel free to reply. Hopefully Ronnie sees this before their S4 review!

To all their own but personally cus AOT has just been so consistent with those details throughout the entire show only to have a bunch of plotholes in the finale just rubs off wrong on me especially cus they could have been avoided so easily. I can't blindly give it a 10/10 cus after evaluating all parts of it, the finale is personally a 7/10.

Although the finale definitely isn't perfect upon some rewatches, I genuinely love the overall message of the episode/show. It's especially fun going back over past episodes and seeing the hints and random 1-liners that foreshadow the ending. Imo, a 7/10 ending to a 10/10 show. Can't wait for the Vinland reactions!
