2025-01-06 17:46:29 +0000 UTCI don't think Thor would want to associate with Askeladd kind! (Avoiding any spoilers here) But Askeladd doesn't seem like the type of lad Thor would hire for any reason. Like They have completely opposite beliefs. It's like an anti-slave organization hiring slave traders that love doing bad things to help them do something. (I may have possibly used a bad comparison here.. but you get the point) Things would have gone well if Thorfinn wasn't here. Thorfinn was unfortunately the weak link. And Thor says this in the episode. If anything he chose his son over himself.

2024-12-30 23:33:07 +0000 UTCHelpy, I don't think distaste of political thinking is a part of Thors' beliefs. To me it feels more like a character trait. Peaceful conflict resolution would be completely in accordance to his principles. And his son would still have a father.

2024-12-30 15:34:39 +0000 UTCI don't think Thors wants anything to do with that kind of tactical thinking at this point, Thors is tired of hurting and killing as we both know, and getting out of this situation by combat OR with him living would be infinitely messier. He was willing to die for his principles but most people cannot understand forfeiting their life for a belief so it seems like a fumble, he ensured the safety of his son as best he knew how while honoring his belief in life. Thors is satisfied and glad as he says in the end, being able to stick to his morals. There was no fumble because he wasn't playing the metaphorical game to begin with. True man.

2024-12-30 14:51:18 +0000 UTCAlso funny how you boys mention Askeladd is a hard to read character because the author himself said that at one point while he was writing the manga, he felt like Askeladd started writing himself, so you're in for a ride. For me, he's on par with Erwin in his own unique way as one of the best supporting characters in any anime I've watched so far, which should tell you enough on what to expect.

2024-12-30 14:07:59 +0000 UTCAs much as I respect Thors, I think he kind of fumbled here, at first he successfully deduced that Floki is behind this, which impressed Askeladd, but then the next logical conclusion would be that it’s an assassination and the only way out of this is to offer something more valuable. He already needed the sailors to hire, he could have just hired them, I am sure his future high position would have access to plenty of money. But Thors is too much of a Ned Stark here, he is not a sly political character, so he either doesn’t see this option or willingly ignores it. What’s crazy is that Askeladd, impressed by Thors strength and philosophy, basically offered this outcome for free, but Thors ignored it, because he was too focused on the duel angle, which I assume is a part of why Askeladd seemed disappointed
