hej, I know I am a bit late but still, I will be trying to explain some stuff that came up while reacting in the comments from now on about viking culture because I am pretty well versed in that regard. I am watching Vinland Saga for the first time here though so some stuff might have been explained already. I gotta admit though that I don´t watch the after discussions soooo ya. Where do people go that don´t die in batte? To Hel. Hel is described pretty chill so the dead pretty much do what they did in their life aswell there. You have to keep in mind though that most records we have of norse mythology was written by christians and Hel is one of these things. What are these arrows on the dagger? They both are the Tiwaz rune or Tyr rune. Tyr is also the god related to this rune and it´s the rune of victory. So I think it´s on this dagger because both of the meaning and the assigned god Tyr (war god) but also just because the dude is called Thors the Troll. Also from this and the first ep I would say that it´s very loosly based on norse culture so anything that happens here probably wasn´t how the norse were in reality. Kinda have the same issues with the show "vikings" because people think that this is how the norse were but they weren´t. The viking we know btw comes from viking which is basically a word for raiding from the sea. So people who would go viking are vikings but not every dane or norsemen or whatever was a viking. They were vikings while raiding but when they come home they usually were normal people, doing normal stuff..

2024-12-28 15:52:38 +0000 UTCOne thing you guys should do (that I wish I did while watching VS) is compare the ideas of the "enemy" you hear in VS to the ideas we learnt in AOT. I love the way the 2 shows handle the themes of war and the enemy so just keep that in the back of your head for the end of episode/season discussions.
