Now this is going to be long but I wanna dive into this more. I believe there’s two things that led to Canute’s resolve. First having a purpose, second being aware you have the power to achieve that purpose. First, the triggering factor to his purpose is the priest. Thanks to their discussion, he realised that the earth is truly magnificent and humans betrayed god’s creation. Then he came up with his goal, to create a paradise on earth. Then he understood he had the power to achieve it, he is indeed a prince with powerful allies. Now this is getting interesting because this connects with a lot of characters that went through a significant change in a short amount of time like Canute did. For Eren’s change in personality after touching historia’s hand : Triggering factor : Visions that showed the other side of the sea is just as cruel as paradis. Realisation : To save all his friends he’s gonna have to kill everyone Goal : Achieve freedom for him and his friends. Power to achieve it : founding Titan and the rumbling For Light’s change of attitude after getting the Death Note : Triggering factor : News spreading the sins criminals are committing everyday Realisation : The world is rotten Goal: Create a new world without crimes and ruled by him as a god Power to achieve it : Death Note For Thors change of attitude when he deserted : Triggering Factor : Having a baby, a family, people that cares if he dies on the battlefield. Realisation : War is corrupted, some of the people he is facing have families too. No one really has any enemies. Goal : Go somewhere peaceful, far away from war to live with his family & keep them away from it as long as he lives. Power to do it : A boat, and for the rest we can all agree Thors is a W father What I get from all this is when you have a clear goal, and one so important you are willing to die for the cause and you also have the awareness that you are capable of achieving it Then the determination to act and do everything in your power towards fulfilling it becomes natural. Taking action is easier than ever. And that makes the person change to the version of himself he needs to be to achieve it. That makes the change. At least I believe.
