Becoming what you hate is kind of a common theme in anime, but it’s always done very well. Light becoming an absolute killing machine when he hated crimes. Eren well we know about eren, and yes Askeladd too. But there’s many more. All are goated characters for sure ✔️

For them dying in battle and going to Valhalla was the most honorable thing. Trying to make them follow a different path would have just caused a mutiny. Staying true to his belief until the end, surely that was a way to prove himself he really had changed. He must have died in peace.

2025-01-27 13:49:09 +0000 UTCWhen Askeladd talks about beauty in men and looking back on his interaction with Thors - he definitely saw it in him, not just because of his strength, but also because of his philosophy and principles. But Thors didn't really try or want to lead people towards his views, he probably just wanted to atone for his violent past, maybe that's why he preferred to sacrifice himself instead of taking charge of Askeladd and his people. It's unclear to me if he consciously declined Askeladd's offer, since he didn't say anything. Also could be that it was so unexpected that he wasn't sure if Askeladd was serious.

2025-01-27 12:00:24 +0000 UTCI feel like what many people miss is that the duels don't matter, they're symbolic in my opinion. Thorfinn is fated not to win his duels because he can't get past his rage, but he also cannot quell his rage until he wins his duel (even if he won it's not guaranteed it'd make him feel better). The answer is to either kill Askeladd without honor, or to move on and live his life the way his father wanted him to. So him losing the duels for years doesn't really matter he just shouldn't be fighting Askeladd head on to begin with.
