Fun fact, this sword that Ketil unsheaths with engraved marks is an Ulfberht sword, a kind of "brand" sword known to be high quality and expensive. But the engravings don't exactly match the sword, which means that Ketil has a fake Ulfberht, which was often the case. When this first came out in the manga, a lot of people were wondering if Yukimura (the author ) had made a mistake before anyone pointed out the possibility that it was intentional and perfectly matched to Ketil ; Just as Ketil has an fake reputation as a fearless and savage warrior when in reality he is a man who is afraid to fight, he has a fake Ulf berht sword trying to pass himself off as the real one.

As long as the world operates the way he wants, he's happy, but as soon as those things start slipping from his grasp and he feel like he has no control, you see his true colours. The irony is that the man who "controls" an entire farm and has immense wealth has no control over himself and his emotions, whereas a slave like Thorfinn who has nothing other than himself has self control and has practised restraining his emotions. 2025-03-10 15:10:05 +0000 UTCThe worst thing about Ketil in this scene is when they show the flashbacks of him young with a girl - you realize that what you see coming out of him is also the anger about what happened there, but his actions are so terrible that it feels nasty to have any empathy for him. Also I have to commend the great move of making him seem like a good guy at first, until you slowly realize that he has a sex slave who he views as an object and feels justified to beat if she upsets him
