It is also funny that they said Sae was a coward / blaming others for not fulfilling his dream when he upgraded his dream to a much more difficult one. You can have the game of your life as a midfielder, make one mistake that cause a goal and you will be blamed but as a striker, you can have the worst game of your life but a goal will boost your match rating and suddenly it is either a decent / good game

Midfield is actually way harder and more complex than being a striker... I think above seeing Strikers better than him, Sae realized in Spain that his talents are suited for the midfield. It was lowkey foreshadowed with the ice creams, Rin the striker has all the luck and when they played together Rin instinctually knew where to be and Sae always found him so Sae just realized his role
