Amazing reaction to an amazing episode! I have so many words about Oikawa not being a genius. First of all, I always believed translation from Japanese to English, genius doesn't 1-1 cover what "tensai" means. Its more like "god given ability" than genius, Kageyama is someone who can capable of everything on the floor by his talent, its really not about how he is as a current player. Its something like wonderkid. Second, I think whole Oikawa is not a genius comments are baloney and kinda pushed by narrative purposes. Anime will dig deeper into this concept but I always felt if it was not an anime and real life, people would consider Oikawa as a "genius". Its there to praise his hardwork, dedication, getting %100 out of his spikers and overall understanding of the game but over-done, imo. Something goes under radar is mental toughness of Tanaka, even at his slapping moment, he is not apologizing for missing the receive, he is apologizing for not calling for the ball for a second. He really is an all-around amazing guy every team wants. Kageyama got pressured and got into his old habits throughout this set and they had a change of pace/clearance of mind before going into next considering they will likely lose this one so sub is %100 valid but definite shock to Kageyama. Growth is not a constant lineer thing though, he will bounce back. Man I love this show, your reactions are so good, keep it up <3

Haikyuu Community we are live in this bitch!!! I love how different people are but in this community we are a bundle of love and appreciation

Karabo

I love how you guys pay so much attention to every detail, especially all the movements happening on the court. Most of the time, moments like when they keep failing to recieve Kindaichi’s serve at 10:18 (and many more to come), gets overlooked by other reactors a lot; but honestly if you just pay enough attention you’ll understand why it was posing as an issue even without it being explicitly explained (like how you noticed its always during the time Kags switches position). The pay offs are lit in this show, i can keep nerding on them forever 😭

Carmie

i honestly love wathcing you guys, because you are so incredibly attentive and notice themes and underlying motives. you are so incredibly fun to watch and so likeable!!!

What makes Kageyama so incredible is that, while he already has the sense and skill of a top-tier setter, he’s also able to absorb other players’ techniques.

Not sure if someone already mentioned, just ignore this if so, but there’s an after end-credit scene on Ep 24! Looking forward to your reactions on the rest of the season.

Oikawa is such a good player, in the way that he has the technique and physicality, but he also has the knowledge to observe the team they’re fighting. Their coaches don’t even really get involved during time outs because the players just discuss among themselves, often lead by Oikawa.

kodzuika

I love all characters. But Oikawa…I love you sooooo much!!!!!!!!!

Yess loved your discussion at the end! You guys get it, it wasn’t just hinata who needed kageyama, even though that’s the most obvious to see. Like yes hinata probably wouldn’t be on the court right now without Kageyamas ridiculous skill to pull out his latent potential, but kageyama also met hinata again at the perfect time too because that final loss in middle school taught him that he needed to change his egocentric mentality, and hinata having all that potential but no technical skill whatsoever FORCED kageyama to have to adapt and learn to work together with him, and slowly others as well. It’s what he needed in order to become a true setter like Oikawa who can pull out everyone’s max potential. Oikawa is just so clever and discerning though, he understands player mentality and has the emotional intelligence to observe the relationships on both sides of the court and use them to his advantage. It’s not easy to change and especially when your back is against the wall, it’s so easy to just fall back into bad habits.

omg leaving this on such the cliffhanger is so infuriating 😭
