And Catra looks appropriate smug, buy I especially love Adora's reaction! She is just so in disbelief, and probably fallen even harder than ever before for Catra. Also probably a bit of gay panic with Catra's arm around her. XD

Yess Adora has strong genetics, but also Melody wanted that to be the case. She didn't want Finn to look like her at all. Yess Catra goes full protective mode and Adora is so not used to it. Yess Catra is going to be a great lawyer and makes an adorable chibbi, lol.

2024-08-08 06:39:44 +0000 UTCYou raise alot of really good points here. I agree that Catra shouldn't bring herself down to Melody's level in order to defend Adora. She doesn't really see the harm in it when she wants to protect someone she cares about. I do agree that in some relationships there can be that inbalance of power based on their wealth but I don't think its all relationships. Adora's first generation rich, which makes her much more prone to give the money away than keep it because she knows what its like to be without it. Money can be toxic but not all people with money fall into the same catagory. Adora wants to use her money for good and she wants to keep Finn comfortable and safe. I think they would be able to work it out and even if Catra didn't defend Adora in the best way, she still appreciates her trying to help. π

After a certain point, simply being in the same room as your abusive Ex and subjecting yourself to their manipulation tactics -even if they're not directed at you- is draining and demoralizing. We saw it with Shadow Weaver in the show that Adora was still vulnerable to some of her mind games, and it's also clear here that Melody's words are sowing seeds of discomfort and distress as well. And what's worse is that Catra really isn't helping here: She's fighting purely on Melody's terms. Melody WANTS the 3AM trailer park argument to happen, she thrives on this kind of petty drama, mostly because it serves her purpose of dragging Adora down into the muck with her. It serves as a reminder to Adora that this is the kind of life for which she is inescapably destined: Being used as a cheap trophy over which other people compete with vulgar empty threats that demean her as much as they demean each other. However Melody does raise one singular point of salience, that of Adora's wealth. Large imbalances of financial assets in a relationship can be extremely poisonous, leading to resentment on both sides. The wealthier half will resent the poorer one for being what they see as a leech, while the poorer half will resent the wealthier one for silently lording their status and power over them and forever keeping them in an inherently subservient role. And a prenup -a financial instrument designed largely to protect and maintain a wealth imbalance- would be an ever-present reminder of the inequity between them. Melody knows that Adora is a soft heart who's only one good reason away from gladly giving away more than half of everything she owns to something worthy, and she resents the fact that apparantly she wasn't a good enough reason. But she *is* smart enough to introduce this worm into Adora's brain as a reminder of the underlying toxicity of her relationship with Catra. And Catra walks right into the trap. TBH, the best thing for Adora in this moment is to sell off her company, give 99% of the proceeds to a battered women's shelter, and then fuck off to a tiny cabin in the woods with Catra where Melody won't be able to follow.
